Marbach-Ad, G., McGinnis, & J. R., Benson, S., & Schalk, K (2008). Connecting learners’ area of interest in a microbiology course for non-majors and teachers’ interns: Project Nexus (Y2). A paper presented at the annual meeting of the Association for Science Teacher Educators, St. Louis, Missouri, February, 2008.

ABSTRACT

A pedagogical innovation in an undergraduate microbiology course for non-majors (including teacher interns) was described. Student interest was used to enact “Teach for all.” Findings suggest that this course was well received ultimately by the majority of the undergraduate students and resulted in measurable gains in multiple dimensions, including a more sophisticated view of the nature of science.
